Decarboxylation: why is it so important?

Why decarboxylate Cannabis?
Actually, Marijuana in its "natural" form contains few psychotropic amounts, but THCA and CBDA known as cannabinoid acids are present. For the latter to become the substances we know, a heat-facilitated molecular reaction called "decarboxylation" is required.
This step takes place at a constant temperature of 110°C for about 40-45 minutes, the time needed to convert the acids into their corresponding THC and CBD and to keep the terpenes responsible for the aroma intact.
