Properties and pharmacological studies on Hemp

Beyond the narcotics, it is important to know that for thousands of years, it was a very important medicinal plant until the advent of prohibition.

It is worth mentioning in this regard Lester Grinspoon, psychiatrist and the best known proponent of the medical uses of the cannabis plant. He made it clear that the plant was one of the least harmful and toxic drugs on the market at the time. He also suggested easing restrictive policies towards the plant, claiming it exists only for economic purposes and not as a protection of the buyer or human health.

A study carried out in the 2000s (analysing all those done up to that date) claims that this plant is effective in neuropathic and spastic pain. More recent studies have also shown it to be effective in cancer pain, confirming its benefit in spastic pain and the symptoms of multiple sclerosis.

In this regard, it is important to know the therapeutic 'Possible Indications' that the use of this plant can provide.

*Against: nausea, vomiting, anorexia, cachexia, asthma, glaucoma.

*Less confirmed against: allergies, inflammation, infections, epilepsy, depression, bipolarity, anxiety, addiction, withdrawal syndrome.

*In research: autoimmune diseases, cancer, neuroprotection, fever, blood pressure disorders.

Some drugs containing cannabis 'principles' are being tested around the world, but it is becoming apparent that the drugs have too many contraindications to the use of the plant itself.
